7 Ways to Generate More 5-Star Reviews

Word-of-mouth can be one of your most effective marketing strategies. Consider these 7 tips when asking customers for 5-star reviews.

A strong portfolio of 5-star reviews is one of the best ways to build trust with potential clients. Reading success stories from other customers will instill confidence in your brand and convert potential clients to satisfied customers who start their customer journey primed to leave 5-star reviews of their own.

1. Write a clear call to action in your email blasts that encourages customers to leave a 5-star review.

Engage your customers by leveraging your current marketing strategies, like your weekly or monthly client newsletters. Include a quote from an existing 5-star review and a link to where customers can write their own reviews. Make sure to place these in a spot where your readers are most likely to see and respond to them– towards the top of the newsletter or in a prominent sidebar.

2. Personally ask your longest-standing customers to leave you a 5-star review.

You likely already have a great relationship with your most faithful customers, especially if you’re making good use of your Ambassador referral marketing tools.  Make a list of your oldest and most valuable customers, and look in your Ambassador portal to access the email addresses of your top-referring customers.  Reach out to them directly, emphasize that their opinion means a lot to you, and ask them to help you find more customers by writing you a 5-star review. Your power users will enjoy feeling sought after and as returning customers, they likely already want to share how great your product is with the world.

3. Create incentives for leaving reviews, like raffles or customer discounts.

Host a contest to encourage more reviews. Every customer that writes a review will receive a raffle entry to win brand swag or a gift card. Offer customers a discount on their next service if they leave you reviews on multiple platforms, like Yelp and Google Reviews. Get creative about ways to incentivize and reward leaving reviews.

4. Include a link for leaving reviews on your homepage.

Placing your review requests front and center, like on your homepage banner or website navigation, makes it as easy as possible for customers to write you a review. They’ll be even more likely to leave a 5-star review if you pair that request with quotes from other 5-star reviews.

5. Launch a social media campaign encouraging more 5-star reviews.

As you know, a robust social media following is one of your strongest marketing assets. Encourage your followers to leave a review by sharing other reviews on your Instagram story or Twitter feed. Tie in your review incentives by offering customers additional raffle entries or discounts for sharing their 5-star reviews on their timelines, too.

6. Include a “Testimonials” page on your website.

Don’t underestimate the power of suggestion. You can influence your customers to leave a 5-star review by sharing other 5-star reviews in one place on your website. Make sure to leave a clear call to action and instructions for where and how they can write a review.

7. Build as much visibility as possible around your best customer reviews.

Think about the last time you needed to see an ad in multiple places, like on a billboard or on television, before you purchased the product. Sometimes, customers need to be asked the same thing multiple times before they convert. Ask your customers to leave 5-star reviews in as many places as you can, like on your website, in your email blasts, and on social media. The more times they see your request for reviews, the more likely they are to want to write one.
